after the anniversary trip it ottawa, which was great, i'm slowly trying to make my way into a routine in halifax. its a hard thing to start because i wasn't sure about the details of three of my classes, missing the first two classes of the year because of the anniversary party. in retrospect i should have gone to them friday and give 'er for driving, but elle hadn't seen her best friend (Uottawa attendee) since she left for new zealand in the summer, so we needed to get into ottawa sooner then later. so now that i'm getting to sit down and recognize how the year is going to go, with a four course semester, the work isn't swamped but its not light either. the sickness has all but cleared, and so any training i wish i was doing i'm not sure i should be, because i'd much rather get this stuff out of my system then have it stick around any longer. i've still got about a month to train for the race in rimouski, so hopefully that'll be enough time to get in good enough shape for sub-2h. and then i'll just have to go from there.
its been really weird as of late because this year there are so many little transitions that i never had really anticipated before. i knew living apart and further away from elle was going to be a change, but i never thought it would feel so strange being out of residence. you take for granted all the little things like regularly running into friends just walking up the hall and the regular meals at the cafeteria and the like. i've really got to figure out a plan for eating because trying to be cost-concious while still not going to the superstore and getting the major purchases, i'm just really eating a lot of food from the stands, hot dogs, pitas, etc. and sometimes its a deal, most of the time its not. never thought how new this year would really be, and probably should have gotten out of residence a long time ago so i wouldn't have felt so lost whilst in my fourth year of university.
i've got some great news in regards to that though. it appears after looking over my schedule and my completed courses yesterday that i may very well have the opportunity to graduate at the end of next year. i've been thinking that this degree would take me six years to complete for incompetence in my first two years, but after this full year i'll have fourteen classes left. this leaves me with two chances; 1) continue attending dal or go home, but take four courses in the summer and then come back for a full course load in the 2009-2010 school year. or 2) go to australia, do the full course load there, and then come back and finish in the fall of 2010, which if i started in 2005 and finish 2010, i still consider it to be only 5 years. its a tough call. last night with this realization also came another, because of said incompetence, my GPA is not really a true representation of my real grades. i have 12 courses at B+ or above and only 3 in the C range, but because of three previous F's, my overall GPA is only a 2.42, and given that the semester will not be complete before i apply to aussie schools, its very debatable to say whether or not they'll accept me with something so low. how are my real grades misrepresented? omit the fails and my gpa is a 3.0, omit my first "year" (first complete 10 courses and attempted courses in between) and my GPA is a 3.71. looking over this stuff yesterday made me realize how much harder i'd have to work to continue to have the 2.42 rise, and theres really no other option then that. hopefully someone down at the admissions dept in NSW will have enough sense to see that i'm not as dumb as my GPA shows.
applying for a wicked job today and seeing the doctor to get rid of this suffering.
